Dr. Yihua Wang
Lecturer in Biomedical Sciences, Principal Investigator
University of Southampton

Yihua Wang has a long-held interest in functional genomics and cell signalling and haspublished over 70 papers in peer-reviewed journals. He is named as corresponding author in papers in The Lancet Respiratory Medicine, Cell Death & Differentiation, Autophagy, Journal of Biological Chemistry and Journal of Infection, and as first author in Nature, Cell Biology and PNAS articleswith an H index of 30 (Google Scholar).

After successful completion of an MBBS in medicine and a PhD in cell biology, Yihua undertook postdoctoral training in Julian Downward’s CRUK Signal Transduction laboratory and Professor Xin Lu’s lab in the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research Oxford Branch.

In 2016, he joined the School of Biological Sciences in the University of Southampton as a Lecturer, after being successful in a very competitive recruitment process. He sought to identify research links in areas of strategic importance to the University and recognised that lung diseases offered this opportunity.

His fundamental work on hypoxia, RAS signalling, regulators of epithelial polarity and on epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) is not only crucial for understanding diseases such as cancer, but for many other chronic diseases where epithelial dysfunction and fibrosis are evident.
